Dear Members,
|
Wanda Wetterberg 1952-2017 |
With great sadness we share the news of Wanda Wetterberg's
passing. Wanda was a dedicated volunteer to ARPA and the Recreation for
Life Foundation, offering her positive and vivacious spirit to the
recreation sector for over 40 years. Wanda passed away earlier this
week, succumbing to injuries from a fire incident on her family's
acreage a few weeks ago.
Wanda started her recreation career in the 1970s, spending 25
years in the public sector, mostly working for the City of Edmonton.
Wanda then created her own business, offering consulting services and
interim management to the voluntary sector.
Wanda's volunteer involvement with ARPA spanned four decades.
Wanda served on the ARPA Board of Directors from 1988-1992, which
included a term as President in 1990. She helped coordinate numerous
ARPA conferences and sat on various committees, including the Advocacy
and Membership Committee. Wanda also represented ARPA on the Alberta
Healthy Living Network Steering Committee. She played a significant
role as part of the Vision 2015 Committee that was integral in bringing
ARPA to the Foundations for Action document and its follow-up.
Wanda was the current Chairperson for the Recreation for Life
Foundation after sitting as a Director for many years, and led the
recent change to refocus the Foundation on fundraising for ARPA's
programs and services.
The YMCA was also important to Wanda. She served as the President of the Edmonton YMCA and sat on the Board of YMCA Canada.
The loss of Wanda's dedication and energy in advancing recreation is already deeply felt. In lieu of
flowers or gifts, Wanda's family asks that you please make a donation
to the University of Alberta Hospital's Burn Unit. The family will be
holding a private ceremony for Wanda, but at her request there will be a
Celebration of Life in the near future. We will provide details as they
become available.
