Recreation Ontario (PRO),
announced the
appointment of Cathy Denyer as Chief Executive
Officer. Ms. Denyer has provided leadership for several not-for-profit
organizations throughout her career. Most recently she was the President &
CEO for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto. During her tenure with Big
Brothers Big Sisters, she significantly increased the clients served,
diversified the program base, advanced strategic relationships and achieved
impressive fundraising success.
“Cathy brings an enthusiasm and forward-looking vision to
Parks and Recreation Ontario”, said Mr. Allen. “We are excited she will be
joining PRO in this important leadership role.”

its CEO," says Denyer. "I look forward to working with the
membership, staff team and board of directors to enhance PRO’s vision of
Healthy People; Vibrant Communities and Sustainable Environments. As we move
into the future together we will look to continue to grow and further enhance
PRO’s strategic goals in policy leadership, supporting wellbeing and helping
people to lead healthier lifestyles, and developing and enhancing quality
standards and in doing so contributing towards creating a healthier Ontario.”
Ms. Denyer brings over 30 years of experience in service to
the community. She has held several other leadership positions including:
Executive Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel; Executive Director,
Pathways for Children Youth and Families of York Region; and Special Needs
Counsellor, Community Living Kirkland Lake.
Ms. Denyer obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University
of Toronto and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the Harvard Business
School.
Ms. Denyer has served on several not-for-profit boards and
is currently co-chair of the Ontario Mentoring Coalition.
Ms. Denyer joined PRO November 28th, 2016.
Parks and Recreation Ontario is a non-profit association
that advances the health, social and environmental benefits of quality
recreation and parks through evidence-based practices, resources and
collaborative partnerships. PRO was formed in 1995 and today has over 6,500
members including professionals, volunteers, educators, students, interested
citizens, elected officials and commercial representatives — all with an
interest in how recreation and parks contribute to healthy people and vibrant
communities.
