Success Stories? Where are They?
Every day I hear people talking about the need to demonstrate successful initiatives in recreation, community development, community engagement, organizational collaboration or building successful common agendas.
The success stories are out there but in many cases they just haven't been effectively shared. Some of the stories are within government and deemed to be internal and are therefore not shared (our tax money paid for the study). Some of the stories are just buried within organizations or within a final report.
Seeing and hearing these stories is vital as they could help others avoid mistakes, enhance areas of emphasis, avoid duplication and ultimately extend the use of funds.
Hearing the success stories may tip the decision making balance on badly needed programs and services. Hearing success stories may serve as a tool to help motivate others.
The Leisure Information Network has been collecting Success Stories for quite some time and has quite a collection.
Other sources:
Community Development
Community Engagement
Tamarack Institute
NRPA has recently started a success story collection process.
Your search tools will reveal a great many success stories but will YOUR success story be up there? You have a professional responsibility to expand the knowledge pool. Please take the time to document your success stories our future depends on it.
